Bridgestone and Michelin are among the largest tire makers in the planet along with Goodyear and Continental. If you are privy about the statistics, here are some numbers for you Based on tire-related sales in the first and second quarter of 2016, Bridgestone is at the top of the podium with approximately $12 billion in in at a close second place is Michelin with $ billion in total is in third place with approximately $ billion worth of tires out the top 4 is Continental with $ billion worth of tire sales. Based on the sales stats, Bridgestone and Michelin are literally neck and neck for the title of the world’s biggest tire maker. This is the reason why people often ask which is the best between Bridgestone and Michelin since these two brands are among the most popular in the world. Bridgestone Tires Overview Bridgestone Americas is the offspring of two major companies The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company founded by Harvey Firestone in Akron, Ohio in August 1900, and Bridgestone Tire Company of Japan founded by Shojiro Ishibashi in 1931. The Bridgestone name is synonymous with motorsports, particularly in Formula One racing. Bridgestone has been a major part of Formula One since 1997. The company won its first title in 1998 for the McLaren-Mercedes team under the fantastic driving of Mika Hakkinen. Michelin Tires Overview Michelin tires were founded by brothers Edouard Michelin and Andre Michelin in 1889. The two ran a small rubber factory in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Michelin filed its first patent for a removable pneumatic tire in 1891. The prototype tire was used in the bicycle of Charles Terront to win the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race, which was the world’s first ever long-distance cycle race. Interestingly enough, Michelin was the first to introduce the concept of a run-flat tire in 1934. The tire would basically run on a special foam lining if it gets punctured. But the company gained prominence in 1946 when it introduced the world’s first radial tire. Ironically, Michelin first competed in Formula One in 1977, which is the same year that Bridgestone entered Formula One as well. Michelin was the first to introduce radial tire technology in Formula One. The question should NOT be focused on which among Bridgestone or Michelin tires is the best since there is no clear and definite answer. The question should rather be what OEM tires were fitted to my ride? Modern cars are so complex that some were developed and engineered to run at peak performance using a specific set of tires from a famous brand, whether it be Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, or Pirelli. For example, the 2017 Bugatti Chiron sports a set of tires co-developed with Michelin. But even that’s not enough since Bugatti is still waiting for a tire that can travel at the Chiron’s top speed of 310 mph. Since the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires of the Chiron are not rated to handle that ludicrous top speed, the car is now limited to a top speed of only’ 280 mph. The lesson here is simple. If your vehicle was equipped with Bridgestone tires from the factory, it is safe to assume that those specific set of tires will deliver the best combination of traction, comfort, and ride quality in your vehicle. It’s the same with Michelin tires. In terms of price, it is hard to differentiate the two brands since their tires are priced similarly. Mind you, Bridgestone and Michelin tires are not cheap. They are among the most expensive set of tires that you can buy. However, you are not only paying for the brand panache since you also get a longer warranty with each Bridgestone or Michelin tire. Choosing between the two brands is like asking a car enthusiast to choose between a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, Pagani versus Koenigsegg, or Mercedes versus BMW. It is seemingly impossible to choose since each brand offers a different sort of driving experience. One thing is for sure, though. If you are choosing between Bridgestone and Michelin, you can be confident you are getting the best from each brand since they won’t be the top tire makers in the world if not for their commitment to quality and performance. Bridgestone and Michelin are top-notch tire brands that have been in competition since Bridgestone was founded in 1931. Besides that, the brand itself is a test killer. If you ever read a tire test report, Michelin is probably the winner of that how can they do this? Here are the TestingEvery tire manufacturer puts its tires to the test. In fact, this is a world-class necessity. Fulfilling this quality standard may be possible with standardized tests. However, Michelin has greatly exaggerated this event in order to understand in the best way what kind of difficult conditions the product it produces can actually withstand, and what kind of results it may encounter beyond the foreseen. In a year, Michelin tests its tires in such a way that 1 billion miles, yes you heard it right, 1 billion miles 1609344000 km tire models are put to the test. This figure is equivalent to going around the planet 40 Compound & DesignWhen you are going to buy a tire, you may think about how much scientific studies have been done on it, but you cannot predict how detailed it can be. Thanks to the tread patterns developed by Michelin R&D engineers, you can provide superior performance and safety even in rainy and difficult weather conditions. This patented tread pattern, which belongs only to Michelin, has emerged with special design and design studies together with the tests. With models such as Michelin CrossClimate or Primacy you buy, you not only buy that model, but you also buy high Michelin PolicyMichelin subjects it to many processes until it produces a tire. The most important of these is quality and control. Every product that is mass-produced in the world always produces faulty products. Michelin never sells faulty production from the production line. Incorrectly manufactured tires are immediately sent for recycling. Michelin has also produced its own patented machines in order to achieve the desired quality on the production line. Thanks to these special production machines, control safety has been increased and production error rates have been reduced. That’s why Michelin is the world’s best tire manufacturer in 1889Invented the first radial tire in 1949 now, radial tire takes 100% of the market shareMichelin acquired BF Goodrich in 1989. So, yes, BF Goodrich and Michelin are the same companyMichelin acquired Uniroyal US in 1989. Though, they’re not the same company because Bridgestone bought Uniroyal Australia in acquired Camso in 2018Michelin bought of Achilles and Corsa Tires in 2019. Affordable Michelin brand is loading!!!Note Numerically, Michelin is the second biggest tire manufacturer in the vs Bridgestone What to ExpectBridgestone and Michelin respect each other strong points. This competition is the biggest factor in the development of the tire industry in recent though both are reliable in all aspects, they meet with different customer dig into features and find which one is best for is basically the grip capability of your tire. In this case, compound selection and tread design play the biggest since dry, wet, and snow traction requires different features, separating this section into three will give us the best Traction Both brands are performing excellently in dry conditions. However, if you’re living in a dry region, I believe that Bridgestone is a better option due to its generally stiffer compound Traction While Bridgestone is above average in this case, Michelin is leading the Traction Even though some of Michelin’s tires racks, yet, Bridgestone is the safe side handling is the most important safety metric, both company pays huge attention to this feature. Well, the market wants it all at once. However, it’s really hard to depending on the tire category, handling is affected by different softer compound decrease the handling, strong sidewalls, and compact pattern creates a huge competition is tight in this section. If the handling is your priority, I recommend,Bridgestone for summer tiresMichelin for all-season tiresMichelin for winter tiresLongevityLongevity is what Bridgestone promotes more. Well, there is a reason behind I’ve mentioned before, Bridgestone prefers stiffer compounds. This is a huge advantage for better mileage. However, Michelin tires are always lighter. Hence, they generally have lower rolling resistance which can slower tires’ I were not spending 5 years in the tire industry and finding everything online, I would say, it’s a tie game. But, I’m not. So, I prefer to separate categories and share my personal experience with Tires I prefer Bridgestone tires again. I think summer tires are the weakest point of MichelinAll-Season Tires Michelin the whole day long. They’re the inventor of all-weather tires. They know how the combine summer tire pattern with all-season Tires Michelin tires will last longer. Yet, I still recommend Bridgestone and NoiseNoise reduction and comfort are the most important metrics for passenger vehicles. These two are related to different things. While comfort is mostly related to the inner structure, noise reduction is directly related to the pattern and the void area ratio of your tire comfort, Even though Bridgestone is one of the best in this case, Bridgestone tires always have a stiff ride because of their highly durable inner structures. So, if you ask me I trade this slight decrease in comfort for a more durable tire. Yet, we’re talking about comfort. Michelin is a slightly better noise reduction, there is no competition. Michelin leads the market with their unique pattern designs. In my point of view, the rest of the market is I have to admit that Michelin is a better tire if we combine noise reduction and comfort. Yet, the difference isn’t brands offer great warranties. However, I’ve experienced both. I can confidently say that Bridgestone overperforms Michelin in this the attention shown to you is important to you, I recommend Bridgestone You’ll probably don’t need to warranty with Michelin tires. LOOOL!PriceI know I’ve been promoting Michelin in this article. Though, all the features I’ve been mentioning are meanless if the tire is too all know that Michelin tires are the most expensive tires by far. So, the real question out here is Are they worth it?’.Yes, they’re. Well, only if you don’t wanna think about your tire in the next 3-5 years. On the other hand, Bridgestone is at the top of the Price/Performance to Bridgestone, Michelin is a high-ticket brand. Yet, in my point of view, it totally worth it. However, if you’re in financial difficulty, Bridgestone will meet your recent years, the tire market expands and develop so quickly. Well, the companies influence each other and reverse engineering works perfectly in this regarding these two tire manufacturers, both are reliable and trustworthy. However, they are unique in some is a better tire for summer usageMichelin is a better option for all-season usage. However, Bridgestone WeatherPeak gonna be an expectedBoth are equally good in winter. Yet, Bridgestone focuses on traction but Michelin focuses on tires generally offer longer tread lifeMichelin tires are generally smootherTake-Home Points,LT sizes have stronger sidewalls. That feature makes them more durable. Yet, these tires offer a rougher ride. LT vs P-Metric tiresXL sizes tend to carry more load and offer better handling. Hence, if you’ll go with p-metric sizes, they might be a better pick for hauling and towing XL vs SL tiresPlease pay attention to the load range and speed index. These metrics are essential if you expect decent tread lifeThere isn’t a bad tire in the market right now, you should just know what to expect from tiresA side note here If you’d like to get local advice and find the best fit for your driving habits, location, and road conditions DiscountTire – Treadwell Tire Guide can give you masterpiece hope the article was helpful fellows. That said, there are certain performance nuances that would make you choose one tire over the other. Hence, we compared the features of Michelin Defender vs Bridgestone Dueler to help you pick the right option. It turned out that Michelin’s Defender line is more versatile. Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus is 10% more fuel efficient than the H/L Alenza because of its reduced rolling resistance. The H/L 400 got good reviews in wet conditions and aquaplaning resistance and as an OE fitment for Subaru. However, it suffered poor feedback in other aspects such as treadwear. Here’s a rundown of their characteristics. Well-rounded tire, has a slight edge over the T+H in performance. A Related Comparison Michelin Defender vs LTX M/S 2 Differences Bridgestone Dueler vs Michelin Defender 1. UTQG Treadwear, Traction, and Temperature Michelin Defender tires displayed a superior UTQG rating. They are more grippy, durable and better at dissipating heat. As an illustration, the Michelin’s Defender T+H is long-lasting with a treadwear rating of 820 compared to the H/L Alenza Plus’s 800. Both of these scores are the two lines’ highest. As for temperature and traction, the T+H has ratings of B and A, while the Alenza Plus achieved A for both. Below are the UTQG scores for other models. Note that we’ve listed the highest ratings only. HL Alenza – 700 B A and 600 A A HL 400 – 600 B A H/P Sport – 300 A A H/P Sport AS – 500 A AA A/T – 520 B AA and 540 B A H/T – 520 B B and 500 B AA Defender LTX – 800 A A Defender2 – 840 B B for now, not all sizes of this model have received a rating yet As you can see, Michelin generally outperforms Bridgestone when it comes to treadwear. Even if Michelin’s Defender line was compared to the Bridgestone Turanza, the French tire still comes out on top. As for temperature resistance and traction, it depends on which models you’re comparing, since both tire companies have scores of A and B for these criteria. 2. Warranty Michelin Defender tires offer support for 70,000-80,000 miles, while Bridgestone Dueler tires promise 40,000-80,000 miles. However, one tire from the Bridgestone lineup does not offer any warranty. It is the H/P Sport. 3. 3PMSF Michelin Defender tires do not carry the 3PMSF symbol Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake. Despite that, the Michelin LTX M/S has been proven to be capable of handling light snow. Similarly, not all Dueler tires have the Alpine or snowflake symbol, but some of them have extra features that aid snow traction. For instance, the AT Revo 3 is touted as the best all-terrain tire for snow because of its good grip, handling, and braking. The Dueler AT001 is marked with M+S and 3PMSF symbols. This all-terrain and all-season tire is praised for its dry braking in freezing temperatures, plus great traction and handling in mild winter situations. 4. Cost In general, Michelin is more affordable than Bridgestone when it comes to all-season SUV and truck tires. For instance, the price of a Michelin Defender T+H tire starts at $ compared to the lowest price of an H/L Alenza Plus tire, which is $ That is almost $91 in savings. Increased acceleration, which makes the engine works less complicated, can make its life better than usual. Of course, it still has durability, but it is not the best in the market.
